Paul, founded in 1889, has a network of 240 top quality bakeries and pastry-makers throughout France and 34 in other parts of the world, offering a selection of country-style and fancy bread, viennoiserie, pastries, cakes and desserts, snacks and sandwiches. Paul launched in the UK in 2000 and has a number of shops and cafes in key locations. Paul places great emphasis on their product, their customer and their staff. Paul UK wanted to create a branded orientation programme that would engage new employees with their business and enable them to feel part of the team.
The debate for Paul UK was around a desire to see a decrease in time taken for new staff to become productive as well as ensuring that staff understood what the organisation was all about.
Paul UK wanted to create an employee orientation programme that would:
The programme needed to be extremely active with numerous exercises and an element of fun. It had to have a strong brand message and introduce staff to the 'way things are done at Paul'. Due to the multi-cultural nature of the staff, the programme had to cater for those who did not speak fluent English. The material needed to be user friendly so that the programme could be delivered by the Training Manager in the future.
The Paul Welcome programme was designed through a collaborative process with Paul UK. The end result was a programme that is interactive, fast moving and fun combining exercises, quizzes, games and The People Skills Business Team Learning method.
The programme was designed and delivered by The People Skills Business. The Training Manager was coached to deliver the programme. All current and new staff attended thus ensuring that everyone experienced the PAUL Welcome programme.
New starters attend the programme within the first 10 days of employment. The PAUL Welcome programme is supported by a 5 day on job training schedule. The combination of these two has seen an increase in the level of staff engagement and a decrease in the time taken for a new starter to work their first solo shift.
